ESMA Agrees Position Limits Under MiFID II

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published today three opinions on position limits regarding commodity derivatives under the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive and Regulation (MiFID II/MIFIR).

Reference is made to the circular (Ref.: MKD/EQD/12/18) dated 23 March 2018 regarding the change of contract multipliers of China Cinda Asset Management Co., Ltd. (“CDA”), China Shenhua Energy Co. Ltd. (“CSE”), China Evergrande Group (“EVG”), Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (“GAC”) and Sunac China Holdings Ltd. (“SUN”) Futures Contracts on 10 April 2018. Please be advised that pursuant to Exchange Rule 617(d) and HKCC Rule 402, the Exchange and the Clearing House have determined that with effect from the commencement of trading on Tuesday, 10 April 2018, the margin levels of the futures contracts shall be as follows:

• The average daily turnover for the first three months of 2018 was $146.1 billion, an increase of 97 per cent when compared with $74.3 billion for the same period last year.
• Funds raised through IPOs for the first three months of 2018 was $24.4 billion, an increase of 82 per cent when compared with $13.4 billion for the same period last year.
• Total funds raised for the first three months of 2018 was $112.2 billion, an increase of 78 per cent when compared with $63.0 billion for the same period last year.
• There were 69* newly listed companies for the first three months of 2018, an increase of 73 per cent when compared with 40* for the same period last year.
• On 23 March 2018, turnover was $284.1 billion, the second highest ever.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Index at the end of March rose 1.3 percent from end-2017 but fell 2.9 percent from the previous month to 1,776.26 points, same downtrend direction as the overall regional markets. The average daily trading value of SET and Market for Alternative Investment (mai) in March was up 53.8 percent year-on-year to THB 66.4 billion (USD 2.08 billion).
