First of all, I want to thank the Hong Kong Institute of Directors (HKIoD) for inviting me back once again. I think the last time I spoke at your luncheon was four years ago. Time flies and so much has happened since then.
Today I want to talk about the changing role of the Independent Non-Executive Director (INED). This is an important part of how we can improve corporate governance and preserve Hong Kong’s reputation as a premiere capital-raising centre.

FIA May 2018 SEF Tracker

Total trading volume on SEFs averaged $673 billion in notional value per day during May 2018. That was up 25.8% from May 2017 and up 5.7% percent from April 2018. The month-over-month increase in trading volume was driven mainly by a rise in on-SEF trading of interest rate swaps, which was up 22.3% from May 2017 and up 5.8% from April 2018. Trading of FX products in May 2018 continued at a high level; though FX trading in May was the second lowest month this year, it was still higher than any other month in prior years.

Launch Of The Green Bond Channel: Bringing Chinese Securities To International Investors

- The Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) and Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE) launch the Green Bond Channel.
- It gives international investors access to data and information on Chinese domestic green bonds listed in Shanghai.
- Information about 18 green bonds listed on SSE, representing 11 Chinese corporate issuers, will be available in English via the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.
- Access to the green bonds listed in Shanghai is routed via existing execution channels.
