New York Attorney General Letitia James Investigating Facebook For Possible Antitrust Violations

New York Attorney General Letitia James today released the following statement confirming the bipartisan coalition she’s leading investigating social media giant Facebook for antitrust issues:
“Even the largest social media platform in the world must follow the law and respect consumers. I am proud to be leading a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general in investigating whether Facebook has stifled competition and put users at risk. We will use every investigative tool at our disposal to determine whether Facebook’s actions may have endangered consumer data, reduced the quality of consumers’ choices, or increased the price of advertising.”

- Market capitalisation was $30.0 trillion at the end of August 2019, a decrease of 6.8 per cent from $32.2 trillion at the end of August 2018.
- The average daily turnover in August 2019 was $86.4 billion, an increase of 25.8 per cent when compared with $68.7 billion in July 2019, and a decrease of 8.4 per cent from $94.3 billion in August 2018.
- The average daily turnover of CBBCs for the first eight months of 2019 was $8.7 billion, an increase of 20.8 per cent when compared with $7.2 billion for the same period last year.
- The average daily turnover of ETFs for the first eight months of 2019 was $4.7 billion, an increase of 4.4 per cent when compared with $4.5 billion for the same period last year.
- The average daily turnover of debt securities for the first eight months of 2019 was $0.3 billion, an increase of 50 per cent when compared with $0.2 billion for the same period last year.

Martin Noréus, Deputy Director General, Finansinspektionen: Capital And AML - Current Topics In Bank Supervision - UBS Nordic Financial Services Conference

At a conference yesterday, Deputy Director General Martin Noréus shared his views on capital adequacy in Swedish banks and how capital adequacy will be impacted by forthcoming regulations. Mr. Noréus also gave a process update on ongoing AML investigations and concluded that money-laundering risks will become a bigger consideration in prudential supervision.

Monetary Authority Of Singapore And Singapore Academy Of Law: New Initiative Helps Payment Firms Easily Access Specialised Legal Services To Meet Compliance Needs

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) have launched a new Payments Regulatory Evaluation Programme (PREP) to help connect the payments industry with legal service providers. Instead of relying on informal referrals, PREP provides payment firms with a streamlined process to gain access to lawyers specialising in payment services regulations to meet their compliance needs. For a start, seven local and international law firms in Singapore will participate in a two-month pilot run of PREP (refer to Annex for list).
