Bursa Malaysia - Securities Borrowing And Lending: The Blockchain Path To Building Operational Efficiencies

Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia” or “the Exchange”) has completed its first securities borrowing and lending (“SBL”) Proof-Of-Concept (“POC 1”) blockchain technology solution designed to increase the efficiency, speed and capacity in the securities lending supply and borrowing demand (“Lending Pool”).

On 31 October 2019, the 2nd China-Thailand Capital Market Cooperation Seminar jointly organized by SZSE and the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) was successfully held in Shenzhen. During the Seminar, which centers on China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the “Thailand 4.0” strategy, discussions on topics such as China-Thailand capital market cooperation, investment opportunities in Thailand, etc. were made, and roadshows of characteristic Thai listed companies were conducted. SZSE President & CEO Wang Jianjun and SET President Pakorn Peetathawatchai attended and addressed the Seminar. Nearly 120 representatives from Chinese and Thai stock exchanges, investment institutions, listed companies and financial enterprises attended the event.

1.     Thank you for inviting me to join you today. Let me begin by congratulating the Cyber Risk Management Project or CyRiM, on the launch of its catastrophic cyber attack scenario report. CyRiM is led by the Nanyang Technological University’s Insurance Risk and Financial Research Centre, in partnership with industry Founding Members Aon Centre for Innovation and Analytics, Lloyd’s, MSIG, SCOR and TransRe, and has partnered the University of Cambridge Centre for Risk Studies for the scenario workstream.
