    “Setting capital requirements for globally active banks is a fine balanc­ing act. As regulators learned during the global financial crisis, insuffi­cient capital creates vulnerabilities in the banking sector that can have damaging consequences in times of stress. However, if banks are required to hold disproportionately high levels of capital, this will con­strain their ability to act as intermediaries, negatively affecting liquidity in financial markets. To avoid both scenarios, policy­makers have a critical responsibility to get the balance right."

    As part of an effort to provide greater clarity on the application of the federal securities laws to crypto assets, the Division of Corporation Finance is providing its views on certain activities on proof-of-work networks known as “mining.” Specifically, this statement addresses the mining of crypto assets that are intrinsically linked to the programmatic functioning of a public, permissionless network, and are used to participate in and/or earned for participating in such network’s consensus mechanism or otherwise used to maintain and/or earned for maintaining the technological operation and security of such network. We refer in this statement to these crypto assets as “Covered Crypto Assets” and their mining on proof-of-work networks as “Protocol Mining.”

    The latest survey of the "Aktienbarometer" – an annual survey carried out by the Federation of Austrian Industries, Aktienforum and Vienna Stock Exchange – shows a continuing upward trend in securities ownership among the Austrian population. Almost one in three Austrians now invests in shares, bonds or investment funds and ETFs. The growing importance of the capital market is reflected in the current figures and shows that long-term wealth accumulation has reached the centre of society.

  • The EBA Launches Its Monitoring Of Climate Risk In The EU/EEA Banking Sector

    The European Banking Authority (EBA) today published key indicators on climate risk in the EU banking sector, based on information published by banks as part of their Pillar 3 ESG disclosures. This new dashboard is a first step in establishing a broader ESG risks monitoring framework and allows centralised access to comparable climate risk indicators. It also provides relevant benchmarks and enhances the assessment and monitoring of transition and physical climate-related risk across the EU/EEA banking sector.
