HM Treasury And Bank Of England: Statement On Central Bank Digital Currency Next Steps

HM Treasury (HMT) and the Bank of England (the Bank) have today announced the next steps on the exploration of a UK Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). CBDC would be a new form of digital money issued by the Bank of England and for use by households and businesses for their everyday payments needs. It would exist alongside cash and bank deposits, rather than replacing them.

Nasdaq has today announced that it will collect and make its private fund manager diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) data available for investors free of charge via the Nasdaq eVestment platform in an effort to improve transparency and disclosure standardization across the industry. The data will be available starting on February 16, 2022.

Whether in the news, social media, popular entertainment, and increasingly in people’s portfolios, crypto is now part of the vernacular. But what that term actually encompasses is broad and amorphous and includes everything from tokens, to non-fungible tokens, to Dexes to Decentralized Finance or DeFI. For those readers not already familiar with DeFi, unsurprisingly, definitions also vary. In general, though, it is an effort to replicate functions of our traditional finance systems through the use of blockchain-based smart contracts that are composable, interoperable, and open source. Much of DeFi activity takes place on the Ethereum blockchain, but any blockchain that supports certain types of scripting or coding can be used to develop DeFi applications and platforms.

The volume focuses on retail market competition, retail prices, and consumers, including the importance of consumer engagement in the energy transition.
