  • SEC Charges Final Participant In Multi-Million Dollar Scheme To Spread And Trade On False Rumors About Public Companies

    The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged Milan Vinod Patel, of Cumming, Georgia, for spreading more than 100 false rumors about public companies to generate more than $1 million in illicit trading profits. The SEC previously charged Barton Ross, Mark Melnick, Anthony Salandra, and Charles Parrino for their roles in this scheme.

    Today, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen spoke with Spanish First Vice President and Minister for the Economy and Digital Transformation Nadia Calviño. Vice President Calviño is the Chair of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC), the policy advisory committee of the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Secretary Yellen highlighted the United States’ continued support for Ukraine, including through an IMF program for the country. The Secretary also conveyed U.S. views on IMF governance and priorities. Secretary Yellen highlighted the United States’ efforts to work with European allies on the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act. Finally, Secretary Yellen noted mutual efforts to deepen relations with Latin American partners.
