ASIC Announces Transformational Package To Safeguard Australia’s Financial Markets In Response To ASX Inquiry Interim Report

ASIC has obtained commitments from ASX Group (ASX) on a package of reforms including:
- Strengthening the independence and governance of ASX’s Clearing and Settlement Facilities Boards
- A strategic reset of ASX’s transformation program ‘Accelerate’, with clear milestones and accountability for delivery
- The imposition of an additional $150 million capital charge on ASX Limited to ensure ASX maintains robust financial resources until remediation is complete
- A commitment to stronger leadership

ASX Commits To Strategic Package Of Actions From ASIC Inquiry And $150m Capital Charge

Today ASX has committed to a strategic package of actions with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (“ASIC”) (“Commitments”). These Commitments address the findings contained in an interim report (“Interim Report”) from the expert ASIC Inquiry Panel (“the Panel”), appointed in June 2025, and are designed to deliver confidence in ASX as a provider of critical market infrastructure.

Special Announcement: The processing and publication of Commitments of Traders data were interrupted from October 1 – November 12 due to a lapse in federal appropriations. Following a return to normal operations, the CFTC has resumed publication of the Commitments of Traders reports in chronological order. A revised release schedule depicts the intended COT Report publication dates for the data associated with the original publication date.
