The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged Vale S.A., a publicly traded Brazilian mining company and one of the world’s largest iron ore producers, with making false and misleading claims about the safety of its dams prior to the January 2019 collapse of its Brumadinho dam. The collapse killed 270 people, caused immeasurable environmental and social harm, and led to a loss of more than $4 billion in Vale’s market capitalization.

The Financials sector contributed 57,75% to the total value traded which was the highest among all other sectors. Investors primarily focused their interest on the shares of “Bank of Cyprus Holdings Plc” and also on shares of “Mallouppas & Papacostas Public Co Ltd” with 41,07% and 26,92% of the total value respectively.

Bursa Malaysia Announces RM68.0 Million Profit After Tax And Zakat For The First Quarter Of 2022

Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia” or the “Exchange”) recorded a Profit After Tax and Zakat (“PAT”) of RM68.0 million for the first quarter ended 31 March 2022 (“1Q2022”), a 44.0% decrease from RM121.4 million reported in the previous corresponding quarter ended 31 March 2021 (“1Q2021”). The decrease in PAT is due to lower operating revenue by 29.4% to RM161.0 million from RM228.0 million in 1Q2021, primarily caused by a decline in securities trading revenue.
