Shenzhen Stock Exchange Expands Scope Of Underlying Stocks or Securities Margin Trading To Further Promote Healthy And Orderly Development Of Securities Margin Trading Business

To promote the healthy and orderly development of securities margin trading, with the approval of CSRC, SZSE recently further expanded the scope of underlying stocks for margin trading. The number of underlying stocks other than those listed under the registration-based IPO system of SZSE will increase from 800 to 1,200. The foregoing adjustment will become effective from 24 October 2022.

ISDA: Technical Paper On Active Accounts

In the paper Targeted consultation on the review of the central clearing framework in the EU from February 2022, one of the measures proposed for consideration by the European Commission (EC) was the requirement for an “active account” (ie the requirement to “maintain[…] an active account with an EU central counterparty (CCP) for the products that are available inside and outside the EU”). We understand that such a measure would require all, or a subset of, EU clearing participants to have an account at an EU CCP or a tier-1 CCP in addition to, or as an alternative to, an account at a tier-two third-country CCP.

Ontario Securities Commission: Cronos Group Inc. To Pay More Than $1 Million For Accounting And Control Failures

A panel of the Capital Markets Tribunal today approved a settlement agreement between the OSC and Cronos Group Inc. (Cronos) regarding accounting errors that led to two restatements of its interim financial statements. A separate settlement agreement was also approved between the OSC and William Hilson, Cronos’ former Chief Financial Officer and Chief Commercial Officer, for his role in one of the company’s cannabis wholesale transactions.

SEC Charges Canadian Cannabis Company And Former Senior Executive With Accounting Fraud

The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged Cronos Group Inc., a Nasdaq-listed cannabis company based in Toronto, for improperly accounting for millions of dollars of revenue and for other accounting misconduct in multiple reporting periods. The SEC also charged Cronos’s former Chief Commercial Officer, William Hilson, with fraud and aiding and abetting the company’s violations. In agreeing to settle with Cronos, the Commission determined that the company should not incur a financial penalty, given its timely self-reporting, significant cooperation, and remediation.

In fact, a 2022 MSCI report states that, "ESG investing has become a prevailing part of investing," and predicts that the trend will only grow stronger. But companies also face increasing regulatory scrutiny of ESG issues as well as legal risks, according to Business Law Today. Yet, with more reasons than ever to improve ESG disclosures, even well-motivated companies may not make full use of a basic tool for telling their ESG stories to their most active and engaged investors: the proxy statement.
