Nigerian Exchange Weekly Market Report For September 1st, 2023

A total turnover of 2.866 billion shares worth N37.050 billion in 33,968 deals was traded this week by investors on the floor of the Exchange, in contrast to a total of 1.812 billion shares valued at N29.299 billion that exchanged hands last week in 31,163 deals.

SEC Directs Equity Exchanges And FINRA To Improve Governance Of Market Data Plans

The Securities and Exchange Commission today issued an order directing the equity exchanges and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) (the participants) to file a new national market system plan (NMS plan) to replace the three existing national market system plans that govern the public dissemination of real-time, consolidated equity market data for national market system stocks.

Isaac Hankes, Senior Weather Analyst at London Stock Exchange Group, comments:
“The Panama Canal is experiencing major, ongoing disruptions in the shipping supply chain due to restrictions on traffic related to very low water levels. This is the result of drought conditions that rapidly developed from the beginning of the year through June and have held steady since that time. In fact, 2023 is off to the driest start during January-July since 2015, which had a similar rainfall rate (see figure below). Furthermore, this represents a departure from a long-term wetter trend as reflected by data from 1981-present.

At its September 2022 meetingOpens in a new window, the MPC voted to reduce the stock of purchased gilts held in the APF by £80bn over the subsequent twelve month period. Q3 2023 is the final quarter of the period over which the MPC’s £80bn target applies. Accordingly, the Bank noted in the APF gilt sales Market Notice published on 23 June 2023 that it may be necessary to make some adjustment to the Q3 sales programme in order to meet the target.
