American Stock Exchange Reports Increase In Short Interest

The American Stock Exchange (Amex) member and non-member organizations today reported short interest of 836,516,337 shares as of the February 15, 2006 settlement date, an increase of 76,280,147 from the 760,236,190 (adjusted) shares reported in mid-January. The February figure represents trades through February 10, 2006.

Actively managed mutual funds in the Canadian and U.S. equity categories continued to lag their respective benchmarks (the S&P/TSX Composite Index and S&P 500 Index) in 2005, Standard & Poor's said today.
