The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) today announced the appointment of Diana Preston as managing director and associate general counsel in its Washington, D.C. office. Preston will work closely with SIFMA staff in London and Hong Kong on issues pertaining to international regulatory advocacy.

Freddie Mac, Four Former Executives Settle SEC Action Relating To Multi-Billion Dollar Accounting Fraud - Freddie Mac Agrees To Pay $50 Million Penalty

The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac) with securities fraud in connection with improper earnings management beginning as early as 1998 and lasting into 2002. To settle the SEC’s charges, Freddie Mac agreed to pay a $50 million penalty, which is expected to be distributed to injured investors through a Fair Fund.

The New York Stock Exchange, a subsidiary of NYSE Euronext (NYSE: NYX), today welcomed Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende to the Exchange, where he rang the opening bell after meeting with executives from NYSE-listed Dutch companies. “We are honored to welcome the Dutch Prime Minister, Jan Peter Balkenende, to the New York Stock Exchange,” said NYSE Euronext CEO John A. Thain.

Liffe Cuts The Cost Of Trading Its Robusta Coffee Contract And Extends Trading Hours

Today, Liffe announced that, effective 1 October 2007, and for existing Contract delivery months only, Exchange transaction fees for Robusta Coffee Futures will be cut from 50p to 25p per side, per lot, matching the fees payable on the Exchange's highly liquid, screen-traded Options contracts. In addition, the opening time for the Robusta Coffee Futures Contract will move to 08:00 hours London time, with the close being extended to 17:30 hours.
