Direct Edge broke its all-time daily volume mark today, handling 2.037 billion shares, as of 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Direct Edge also set a market share record for the day, with a matched market share of 9.18%.

The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) today reported that 80,670,249 contracts changed hands at the Exchange in February. Daily volume averaged 4.2 million contracts, up eight percent from February 2008 and two percent from January 2009.
SEC Charges Operators Of Multi-Billion Dollar Real Estate Enterprise With Fraud

The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged Oregon-based Sunwest Management Inc. with securities fraud and is seeking an emergency court order freezing its assets. The SEC alleges that Sunwest, which operates hundreds of retirement homes across the United States, lied to investors about its operations and concealed the risks of the investments, exposing investors to massive losses when the economic downturn triggered Sunwest's collapse.

Kansas City Board of Trade trading volume for the month of February amounted to 300.103 contracts, an increase of 51.5 percent compared to January 2009. Wheat futures trading volume in February totaled 291,289 contracts, an increase of 51.6 percent from last month.

The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced today that total options trading volume in February was 256,464,343 contracts, a 4.93 percent increase over the 244,419,633 contracts traded for the same period last year.

At the international derivatives markets of Eurex an average daily volume of 10.7 million contracts was traded in February (Feb 2008: 11.9 million). Thereof, 6.9 million contracts were traded at Eurex and 3.8 million contracts were traded at the International Securities Exchange (ISE). In total, 209.7 million contracts were traded on both exchanges.

In February, €83.4 billion were turned over on Xetra and on the floor at Börse Frankfurt – a decrease of some 58 percent year-on-year (February 2008: €200.2 billion). Of the €83.4 billion turnover €77.3 billion were traded on Xetra, a decrease by almost 60 percent year-on-year (February 2008: €190.8 billion) and €6.2 billion on the floor (February 2008: €9.4 billion).
