The first local currency-denominated infrastructure investment trust fund in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, Nigeria Infrastructure Debt Fund (NIBF) has been listed on Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX). In September, the combined spot and derivatives trading volume on centralised exchanges fell for the third consecutive month, dropping 20.3% to $1.67tn. This was the lowest combined monthly trading volume recorded since December 2022. The lack of volatility, combined with the seasonality effects that have historically been seen in Q3, has led to centralised exchanges recording the lowest combined quarterly volumes since Q4 2020.

Malawi Stock Exchange Third Quarter Market Report: July – September 2023

The market transacted a total of 156,942,781 shares at a total consideration of MK23,786,392,020.69 (US$21,820,238.45) in 3,334 trades. In the corresponding period 2022, the market transacted a total of 560,112,227 shares at a total consideration of MK14,704,227,803.86 (US$14,325,535.15) in 1,147 trades. This reflects a –71.98% decrease in terms of share volume traded and a 61.77% (52.32% in US Dollar terms) increase in share value traded. Of the shares traded 1 million PCL and 3.98 million TNM shares traded as negotiated deals at a total consideration of MK2.44 billion.
