SIFMA, FSI File Federal Lawsuit Against DOL Fiduciary Rule

The Financial Services Institute (FSI) and Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) joined a federal lawsuit today in the Northern District of Texas, seeking to strike down a recently finalized Department of Labor (DOL) rule that unlawfully expands the definition of a “fiduciary” and jeopardizes investors’ access to advice and education.

U.S. Department Of The Treasury, IRS Release Final Regulations Implementing Bipartisan Tax Reporting Requirements For Sales And Exchanges Of Digital Assets - Regulations Help Taxpayers File Accurate Returns And Pay Taxes Already Owed Under Current Law

As part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s implementation of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) today released final regulations on the IIJA’s reporting requirements for brokers of digital assets, which align these requirements with longstanding reporting requirements for traditional financial services. Owners of digital assets have always owed tax on the sale or exchange of digital assets, and the IIJA did not change that or impose any new taxes on digital assets. It simply created reporting requirements, similar to those that already applied to traditional financial services, to help taxpayers file accurate returns and pay taxes owed under current law.

Financial Action Task Force Holds Plenary In Singapore, Advances Key Illicit Finance Initiatives

Today, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the global standard-setting body for anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism and proliferation (AML/CFT/CPF), concluded its sixth and final Plenary under the Singaporean Presidency. During the Plenary, the FATF took several key actions, including adopting the Mutual Evaluation Reports (MERs) for India and Kuwait, agreeing to publish a report on non-financial gatekeeper facilitation of corruption, and discussing the priorities of the incoming Mexican FATF Presidency.

CISA Misses Mark On Proposed Cyber Incident Reporting Rule - ABA, BPI, IIB And SIFMA Comment On Shortfalls Of CIRCIA Proposal

The American Bankers Association, Bank Policy Institute, Institute of International Bankers and the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association raised serious concerns today in a letter to the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency on its plan to implement new cyber incident reporting laws. The proposed rule would require victims of cyber incidents, like a data breach or other attack, to report to CISA within 72 hours of determining that an incident has occurred.
