Bursa Malaysia Reprimands, Fines And Orders To Strike Off Yap Boh Hian For Engaging In Unlawful/Unethical Trading Activities/Practices

Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad (Bursa Securities) publicly reprimanded, imposed a fine of RM50,000 and ordered to strike off Yap Boh Hian (Yap) from the Register as a Dealer’s Representative (DR) for engaging in unlawful/unethical trading activities/practices through non-permissible contract amendments (the breach). In this regard, Yap had transferred numerous profitable trades from his other clients’ accounts to his wife’s accounts through non-permissible contract amendments carried out by him.

Individual investors’ share in the volume of ETFs traded on the Exchange in June reached 14.1%. Institutional investors continued to lead in terms of volume, at 47.3%, followed by foreign investors (18.4%), financial institutions (17.0%) and public and private companies (3.1%).

IOSCO Consults On Issues Raised For Market Efficiency And Integrity By Technological Developments

The Technical Committee of the International Organization of Securities Commissions has published a Consultation Report on Regulatory Issues Raised by the Impact of Technological Changes on Market Integrity and Efficiency (Report), which is aimed at developing recommendations to mitigate the risks posed to the financial system by the latest technological developments, such as high frequency trading. The work is being carried out in response to a G20 Leaders request during the Seoul Summit in 2010.

United Stock Exchange of India has appointed State Bank of India (SBI) as its clearing and settlement bank. The total number of clearing and settlement banks stands at 10 at present. The list of clearing members on USE now rises to 51 which include banks as well as financial services firms spread across the country. The total number of trading members stands tall at 408. The total applications received for membership is over 529.
