ISDA To Further Develop CCS, The Clearing Connectivity Standard, In Conjunction With Sapient Global Markets

The International Swaps and Derivatives Association, Inc. (ISDA) announced today its support for the Clearing Connectivity Standard (CCS), an industry standard that helps improve over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives reporting and communication for asset managers, futures commission merchants (FCMs), central counterparties (CCPs) and custodians. To further the development of this work, ISDA will work with Sapient Global Markets, which initially developed the standard in collaboration with the largest custodian banks and leading FCMs, to provide program management, governance and industry oversight.

S&P Dow Jones Indices Announces Changes To The S&P/TSX Canadian Indices

S&P Canadian Index Services will make the following changes in the S&P/TSX Canadian Indices:
The shareholders of Guide Exploration Ltd. (TSX:GO) have accepted the share exchange offer from Westfire Energy Ltd. (TSX:WFE) whereby Guide Exlporation Ltd. shareholders will receive 0.4167 shares of Westfire Energy Ltd for each share held. Guide Exploration Ltd will be removed from the S&P/TSX SmallCap and Equity SmallCap Indices effective after the close of Friday, October 26, 2012. Following the acquisition of Guide Exploration Ltd., Westfire Energy Ltd. will change its name to Long Run Exploration Ltd. and its ticker symbol to LRE. The relative weight of Long Run Exploration Ltd. will increase in the same indices to reflect the issuance of shares as part of the acquisition of Guide Exploration Ltd.

At the end of the settlement date October 15, 2012, short interest in 2,177 NASDAQ Global MarketSM securities totaled 7,062,336,033 shares compared with 7,032,266,373 shares in 2,190 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of September 28, 2012. The mid-October short interest represents 4.42 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 4.06 days for the prior reporting period.

Bank Of America Sued In New York For Over $1 Billion For Multi-year Mortgage Fraud Against Government Sponsored Entities Fannie Mae And Freddie Mac

The United States has filed a civil mortgage fraud lawsuit against Bank of America Corporation and its predecessors Countrywide Financial Corporation and Countrywide Home Loans Inc. The lawsuit was announced by U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara; Inspector General of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Steve A. Linick; and Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP) Christy L. Romero.

Federal Reserve Issues Federal Open Market Committee Statement

Information received since the Federal Open Market Committee met in September suggests that economic activity has continued to expand at a moderate pace in recent months. Growth in employment has been slow, and the unemployment rate remains elevated. Household spending has advanced a bit more quickly, but growth in business fixed investment has slowed. The housing sector has shown some further signs of improvement, albeit from a depressed level. Inflation recently picked up somewhat, reflecting higher energy prices. Longer-term inflation expectations have remained stable.
