Vienna Stock Exchange 2023: Record Year For Bond Listings In A Challenging Environment

High interest rates, persistent inflation and geopolitical tensions left their mark on the European stock markets in 2023. While the unfavourable conditions weighed on trading activity, the Vienna Stock Exchange registered a record year for bond listings. With AUSTRIACARD HOLDINGS AG and EuroTeleSites AG there were two new entries in the top segment prime market. The direct market plus for SMEs also grew with the listing of RWT AG. In addition, four companies – Wolford AG, BKS Bank AG, Lenzing AG and Kapsch TrafficCom AG – undertook a capital increase to raise equity.

• The Chicago Business Barometer™, produced with MNI reversed -8.9 points to 46.9 from 55.8 in November. This unwinds most of the increase seen in last month’s reading, returning the Chicago Business Barometer™ back into contractionary territory, but still almost 3 points above the September and October readings. 
• All the main subcomponents which feed into the headline number fell compared to November levels with Employment, Inventories and New Orders returning to contractionary territory.
