European Parliament Sets Out Priorities For Overhauling EU Banks

Bank board members must be personally liable for mistakes and banks' riskier trading activities must be clearly separated from their more conservative lending ones, said MEPs on Wednesday, in a resolution setting out Parliament's priorities for a broad overhaul of EU banks.

European Parliament Backs Planned Temporary Boost To CO2 Permit Price

Plans to freeze the auctioning of some CO2 permits to encourage firms to invest in low-carbon innovation was backed by Parliament on Wednesday, after it narrowly rejected them in April. This time MEPs set stricter conditions for a freeze. The measure aims to restore the incentive effect of the Emissions Trading System, which is designed to cut greenhouse gas emissions and tackle climate change.

SEC Obtains Freeze On Proceeds From Unlawful Distribution Of Biozoom Securities

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced charges against eight Argentine citizens who unlawfully sold millions of shares of Biozoom, Inc. in unregistered transactions. The SEC also obtained an emergency order to freeze assets in the U.S. brokerage accounts of the eight defendants and two other Argentine citizens who had Biozoom shares but had not yet sold them. The action follows last week’s suspension of trading in Biozoom due to concerns that some shareholders may be unlawfully distributing its securities.
