Shenzhen Stock Exchange Extends Through-Put Information Disclosure Service To More Companies

In order to strengthen market discipline and reinforce accountability and responsibility of market participants, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE) has recently expanded the number of companies and types of announcements eligible for Through-put Information Disclosure. The service is now accessible for companies rated as Grade A, Grade B and Grade C in disclosure quality assessment. Eligible issuers now account for 98.76% of all SZSE-listed companies. Corporate action announcements except those with operational risk are also covered in the service. According to a senior officer with the SZSE, expansion of the Through-put service will help accelerate regulatory transformation and advance regulatory philosophies. The regulatory focus will also be shifted from ex ante examination to ex post supervision.

S&P Dow Jones Indices Announces Changes To The S&P/TSX Canadian Indices - A Deletion From The S&P/TSX Venture Composite And Venture Select Indices

S&P Dow Jones Canadian Index Services will make the following changes in the S&P/TSX Canadian Indices:
The shareholders of Novus Energy Inc. (TSXVN:NVS) have agreed to the terms of a Plan of Arrangement with Yanchang Petroleum International Limited (HKSE:0346). Shareholders of Novus Energy will receive $CDN1.18 cash for each share held. The company will be removed from the S&P/TSX Venture Composite and Venture Select Indices after the close of trading on Thursday, January 23, 2014.

Summary
- End of year 2013 NSE equity market capitalization surpassed the market cap at the peak of the market in 2008 (N13.23 trillion vs. N12.62 trillion).
- The capitalization of listed equities grew by 47.33% (44.03% in $-terms) from N8.98 trillion ($57.49 billion) to N13.23 trillion ($82.80 billion); the NSE All Share Index (ASI) gained 47.19%; and average daily turnover for equities was N4.17 billion ($26.10 million), up 57.36% (53.83% in $-terms).
- The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed the year with two (2) new equity listings on the Main Board, while the Bond market recorded 19 new listings with a slight uptick in the value of new issues. See pages 3 and 5 for more details.
- The NSE successfully launched its new trading platform, X-Gen, which supports trading of cash equities, bonds, and ETFs), and the first-ever issuer reporting portal in Nigeria, X-Issuer. The bourse also re-launched its Alternative Securities Market (ASeM) for small and medium companies, and introduced a new market structure for trading equities, along with fixed-income market making.

CFTC To Form An Interdivisional Working Group To Review Regulatory Reporting

Commodity Futures Trading Commission Acting Chairman Mark P. Wetjen, joined by Commissioners Bart Chilton and Scott O’Malia, today announced the formation of an interdivisional staff working group to review certain swaps transaction data recordkeeping and reporting provisions. The working group, led by the director of the Division of Market Oversight, will formulate and recommend questions for public comment regarding, among other things, compliance with part 45 reporting rules, and related provisions, and consistency in regulatory reporting among market participants. Acting Chairman Wetjen has directed the working group to publish the request for public comment in the Federal Register by March 15, 2014. Acting Chairman Wetjen also has directed the working group to review the public comments submitted in response to this request and make recommendations to the Commission in June.

Eurex Exchange Council Elects Carola Gräfin Von Schmettow As Chairperson

At its meeting on Tuesday, 21 January 2014, the Exchange Council of Eurex Deutschland elected a new chairperson as well as the vice chairman for a period of three years. Carola Gräfin von Schmettow, member of the Management Board, HSBC Trinkaus & Burkhardt AG, was appointed as Chairperson, Johannes Pieterse, Managing Director, Optiver VOF was elected as Vice Chairman.
