  • ESMA Informs European Commission Of Its Intention To Ease Certain Frontloading Requirements Under EMIR

    The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has today sent a letter to the European Commission advancing its intention to ease certain frontloading requirement under the European Markets Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR).  Frontloading is a term that refers to the clearing obligation under EMIR, which will oblige counterparties to centrally clear certain derivative trades through clearing houses (CCP). ESMA believes that the frontloading procedure creates uncertainties for derivatives end-users while the exact terms of the clearing obligation has not been defined which could have adverse impacts on risk hedging and financial stability. Therefore, ESMA informs the European Commission that it intends to establish the frontloading requirement in a manner that will minimise uncertainty.

    • The average daily turnover for the first four months of 2014 was $67,607 million, a decrease of 4 per cent when compared with $70,324 million for the same period last year.
    • There were 27 new listings (including transfers from Growth Enterprise Market, or GEM, to Main Board) in the first four months of 2014, an increase of 125 per cent when compared with 12 in the same period last year.
    • Funds raised through IPOs for the first four months of 2014 was $47,735 million, an increase of 480 per cent when compared with $8,225 million for the same period last year.

    The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) kicks off the ‘OppDay” application on iPhone for its “Opportunity Day,” the quarterly event for top management of listed companies to meet directly with analysts and investors, enabling investors to monitor and get up-to-the-minute coverage of the event. For this second quarter, it is being held from today until June 12, 2014.
