Thank you, Ben [Indek], for that kind introduction. I am truly honored to be here tonight to deliver the 15thAnnual A.A. Sommer Lecture. It is a particular honor to deliver this lecture in the presence of Al’s family. In addition to serving as an SEC Commissioner during a particularly trying time, Al Sommer played an impressively wide range of roles over the course of his career. To name just a few, he was Chairman of the Public Oversight Board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the SEC Advisory Committee on Corporate Disclosure, and the America Bar Association Section of Business Law, and he was the Vice Chairman of the NASD.

First Derivatives Secures A Majority Shareholding In Kx Systems In Transformational Deal

First Derivatives (AIM:FDP.L, ESM:FDP.I), a leading provider of software and consulting services to the financial services industry, today announces it has reached agreement with the founders of Kx Systems ("Kx") to acquire a further 46.47% stake in Kx for a total consideration of £36.0m. As a result First Derivatives’ holding in Kx will increase from its current 20.1% to 65.2% on a fully diluted basis. This increase in holding is expected to be earnings enhancing in the current financial year for the Company.

European Central Bank: Statement On New York Times Articles

The ECB neither provides nor approves emergency liquidity assistance. It is the national central bank, in this case the Central Bank of Cyprus, that provides ELA to an institution that it judges to be solvent at its own risks and under its own terms and conditions. The ECB can object on monetary policy grounds; in order to do so at least two thirds of the Governing Council must see the provision of emergency liquidity as interfering with the tasks and objectives of euro area monetary policy.

Shanghai Stock Exchange Launches Pilot Business Of Securities Companies’ Short-Term Corporate Bonds For Securities Industry’s Growth, Transformation

Upon approval by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) recently releases the “SSE Measures on Pilot Business of Securities Companies’ Short-term Corporate Bonds”, which marks the launch of the pilot work of securities companies’ short-term corporate bonds (the Short-term Bonds for short).

UK's Financial Conduct Authority: Temporary Prohibition Of Short Selling

The Financial Conduct Authority (“FCA”) notifies that it temporarily prohibits short selling in the following instrument under Articles 23 (1) and 26 (4) of Regulation (EU) No 236/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 March 2012. This follows a decision made by another EU Competent Authority.
Details of the Financial Instrument concerned: Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (ISIN: IT0004984842).
This measure is effective immediately until the end of the trading day of 17 October 2014.
