Bahamas International Securities Exchange Executive Speaks At The Caribbean Group Of Securities Regulators Conference

Chief Operating Officer of The Bahamas International Securities Exchange (BISX), Mr. Holland Grant, recently took part in the 12th Annual Conference and Workshop organised by the Caribbean Group of Securities Regulators and hosted by The Securities Commission of The Bahamas. This conference which focused on Regional Capital Market Development and Regulation was held at the British Colonial Hilton 20 – 22 April, 2016 and brought together securities regulators from over 20 countries and territories to discuss common issues related to Securities Regulation.

New York State Department Of Financial Services Announces Settlement With Two Debt Buyers Resulting In $3 Million of Restitution To Thousands Of New York Consumers - National Credit Adjusters To Pay $200,000 Penalty And CKS To Pay $25,000 Penalty For Collecting On Illegal Payday Loans

The New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) announced today that it has entered into consent orders with two debt buyers, National Credit Adjusters, LLC (NCA) and Webcollex LLC (doing business as CKS), resulting in restitution of $3 million to New York consumers. NCA and CKS improperly purchased and collected on illegal payday loans from New York consumers. As part of the restitution, NCA will discharge more than $2.26 million in New York consumers’ payday loan debts and provide refunds totaling $724,577 to more than 3,000 New Yorkers. CKS will issue $66,129 in refunds to the 52 New York consumers affected by its unlawful practices, as well as discharge $52,941 in debt to 106 New Yorkers. Today’s settlements represent the first DFS settlements to provide consumer restitution to New York consumers harmed by payday loans.

Hong Kong's Securities And Futures Commission: Takeovers Panel Rules On Breach Of Takeovers Code By A Subsidiary Of Alibaba Group Holding Limited

The Takeovers and Mergers Panel (Takeovers Panel) today published its written decision setting out the reasons for its ruling that Alibaba Group Holding Limited (Alibaba Group) has breached the Takeovers Code in its acquisition of CITIC 21CN Company Limited (CITIC 21CN), later renamed as Alibaba Health Information Technology Limited (Notes 1, 2 & 3).

FINRA Fines Raymond James $17 Million For Systemic Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Failures - Former AML Compliance Officer Fined And Suspended

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) announced today that it has fined Raymond James & Associates, Inc. (RJA) and Raymond James Financial Services, Inc. (RJFS), a total of $17 million for widespread failures related to the firms’ anti-money laundering (AML) programs. RJA was fined $8 million and RJFS was fined $9 million for failing to establish and implement adequate AML procedures, which resulted in the firms’ failure to properly prevent or detect, investigate, and report suspicious activity for several years. RJA’s former AML Compliance Officer, Linda L. Busby, was also fined $25,000 and suspended for three months.
