  • Monetary Authority Of Singapore: Global FinTech Hackcelerator Produces Innovative Solutions To Industry Problems

    The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) today announced that three FinTech companies will receive a cash prize of S$50,000 each for the technology solutions they presented at the Global FinTech Hackcelerator Demo Day. Organised as part of the inaugural Singapore FinTech Festival, the Hackcelerator saw 19 finalists using innovative technology solutions to solve problems submitted by the financial industry. The finalists presented a working demo of their solutions to 11 judges today. Please refer to Annex for the list of judges.

    The Court of Final Appeal (CFA) has dismissed C.L. Management Services Limited (C.L. Management) and its sole owner and director Ms Clarea Au Suet Ming’s application for leave to appeal against their convictions for holding out to provide advisory services on corporate finance without a licence from the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC).

  • Mark Fawcett Appointed New Chairman Of EDHEC-Risk Institute’s International Advisory Board

    EDHEC-Risk Institute is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Fawcett as chairman of its international advisory board. He is Chief Investment Officer of NEST Corporation, the trustee body responsible for running NEST, the National Employment Savings Trust. NEST was set up specifically to support changes that meant UK employers now have to automatically enrol their workers into a workplace pension scheme. Since its creation in 2011 NEST has become one of the largest master trusts in the UK and currently has over 200,000 employers signed up, 3.7 million members and over £1.2 billion assets under management.

  • SETL, Deloitte And Metro Bank Put Sterling Onto The Blockchain For Consumer Payments

    SETL, Deloitte and Metro Bank completed a series of firsts this week in London.  SETL provided a contactless smartcard enabled blockchain allowing digitised payments, Deloitte exercised its blockchain ID system known as Smart Identity and Metro Bank hosted a connected client account.  In an initial test, over 100 users were issued with contactless smartcards and used them to make purchases from merchants equipped with contactless terminals.  Consumers and merchant balances were updated live-time with all balances held at Metro Bank.
