Moscow Exchange: Final Settlement Of Brent Derivatives In December 2016, February And May 2017

Due to public holidays in Russia, the final settlement date of the January Brent oil futures contracts (BR-1.17) will be changed to 30 December 2016, instead of 2 January 2017. The date will be changed technically after 1 December 2016 when the December Brent oil futures contracts (BR-12.16) expire.

Reasons for publication
Regulation (EU) No 648/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 4 July 2012 on OTC Derivatives, CCPs and Trade Repositories (EMIR) requires ESMA to develop draft regulatory technical standards (RTS) in relation to the clearing obligation, in particular on the dates from when the clearing obligation takes effect. Following from this mandate, there are now three Commission Delegated Regulations on the clearing obligation that are based on draft RTS submitted to the European Commission by ESMA.

It is sobering to remember that we are approaching the tenth anniversary of the start of the global financial crisis. Why is that of relevance to financial crime? Well, the last ten years have seen a number of crises, and in my view recent years have been associated with a crisis in financial conduct. Sadly, this has taken several forms – involving retail and wholesale consumer and users of financial markets. One, but only one, element of what we should describe as a misconduct crisis has involved financial crime in its various forms.

ESMA Asks Commission To Delay Central Clearing For Small Financial Counterparties

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published today its final report regarding the amended application of the clearing obligation that financial counterparties with a limited volume of activity in OTC derivatives need to comply with under the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR).

Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), the International Financial Centre in Abu Dhabi, is pleased to announce the appointment of the Hon. Sir Michael Burton and the Hon. Sir Andrew Smith as Judges to Abu Dhabi Global Market Courts (ADGM Courts). The new Judges bring to a total of eight the number of highly experienced and respected judges appointed to ADGM Courts, with the Right Honourable Lord David Hope of Craighead KT as Chief Justice. ADGM Courts is one of the three independent authorities within ADGM.
