Total trading volume on SEFs averaged $571 billion in notional value per day during July 2018. That was down 27% percent from the previous month but up 15.2% from July 2017. The month-over-month decrease in trading volume was driven mainly by a drop in on-SEF trading of interest rate swaps, which was down 27.3% from June 2018 but up 12.9% from July 2017. Trading of FX products in July 2018 continued at a high level; FX trading in July reached $52.8 billion in average daily notional value, the lowest amount this year so far, but still higher than any month prior to 2018.

Financial Services Superintendent Maria T. Vullo today reminded all Department of Financial Services (DFS) regulated entities covered by DFS’s landmark cybersecurity regulation that the third transitional period of New York’s first-in-the-nation cybersecurity regulation ends on September 4, 2018. Beginning on September 4, 2018, banks, insurance companies, and other financial services institutions regulated by DFS are required to have come into compliance with several additional provisions of the cybersecurity regulation that are vital to the governance and components of a robust financial services cybersecurity program.

CUSIP Request Volume Ebbs In July, Signaling Slowdown In New Security Issuance - Municipal, Corporate Equity And Corporate Debt Pre-Market Activity Slows

CUSIP Global Services (CGS) today announced the release of its CUSIP Issuance Trends Report for July 2018. The report, which tracks the issuance of new security identifiers as an early indicator of debt and capital markets activity, found across-the-board declines in monthly request volume for new municipal, corporate equity and corporate debt identifiers in July. This is suggestive of a possible slowdown in new security issuance.

SEC Charges U.S. Congressman And Others With Insider Trading

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced the filing of insider trading charges against Congressman Christopher Collins, the U.S. Representative for New York’s 27th Congressional District, his son, Cameron Collins, and a third individual, Stephen Zarsky. In a parallel action, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York today announced related criminal charges.
