- Securities Market
- Market capitalisation was $42.6 trillion at the end of August 2020, an increase of 42 per cent from $30.0 trillion for the same period last year.
- The average daily turnover in August 2020 was $135.2 billion, an increase of 56 per cent from $86.4 billion for the same period last year.
- The average daily turnover for the first eight months of 2020 was $126.1 billion, an increase of 36 per cent when compared with $92.4 billion for the same period last year.
- The average daily turnover of CBBCs for the first eight months of 2020 was $9.8 billion, an increase of 13 per cent when compared with $8.7 billion for the same period last year.
- The average daily turnover of ETFs for the first eight months of 2020 was $5.2 billion, an increase of 11 per cent when compared with $4.7 billion for the same period last year.
- Funds raised through IPOs for the first eight months of 2020 was $147.7 billion, an increase of 74 per cent when compared with $84.9 billion for the same period last year.
- Total funds raised for the first eight months of 2020 was $369.2 billion, an increase of 99 per cent when compared with $185.2 billion for the same period last year.

Monetary Authority Of Singapore: Reply To Parliamentary Question On Responsible Financing Policies To Address Climate Risks Posed By High Climate-Risk Sectors

To ask the Prime Minister (a) what policies is MAS studying to address climate risks posed by the high climate-risk sectors that have been identified in the Guidelines to Responsible Financing Practices published by the Association of Banks in Singapore in 2018; and (b) whether the Ministry can share how the MAS will be working with banks to develop their responsible financing policies in relation to these high climate-risk sectors.
Answer by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Senior Minister and Minister in charge of MAS:
1. The Monetary Authority of Singapore’s (MAS) objective is to ensure that financial institutions manage their climate-related risks well, and support our economy’s transition to a sustainable and low carbon future. To do so, MAS is issuing new supervisory guidance that incorporates best practices on environmental risk management developed by global regulators, including at the Network for Greening the Financial System. MAS’ proposed Guidelines on Environmental Risk Management , which has undergone public consultation, will be finalised in Q4 2020.

EU Agency report on the application of reference price methodologies in Member States”, ACER is holding a series of webinars. The third one will take place on 15 September (15-16 CET) and will discuss the gas transmission tariffs in the context of the energy transition.

Q 25. To ask the Prime Minister (a) with the conclusion of Project Ubin, what are the steps towards live adoption of a blockchain-based multi-currency payments network prototype; and (b) how soon can a pilot launch in Singapore be expected.
Answer by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Senior Minister and Minister in charge of MAS:
1. Project Ubin is a collaborative industry effort led by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, to explore the use of blockchain technology to clear and settle payments and securities more efficiently. The project will help us better understand the technology and its potential benefits. To date, more than 40 financial institutions, FinTechs and technology firms have participated in the project. -

Shenzhen Stock Exchange Closely Monitors Trading Of “Tianshan Bio” And Advises Small And Medium Investors To Be Rational

The stock price of “Tianshan Bio” (300313) surged recently. It hit the upper limit for seven trading days straight from August 19 to 27. Because the deviation of the price changes met the definition for severely abnormal fluctuations, the company issued an announcement that the trading of the stock would be suspended for inspection beginning on August 28. After the trading of the stock resumed on September 2, its price hit the cap again for two consecutive trading days. In only nine trading days, the stock price soared to CNY 23.16 per share from CNY 5.83 per share, an increase of 297.26%, and its turnover rate was 192.79%.
