The topics for discussion are fascinating, and I appreciate academics who undertake work that sheds light on the issues that we think about from a regulatory perspective. Before I begin, I must give my usual disclaimer: the views I will be expressing today are my own, and do not necessarily represent the views of the Commission or my fellow Commissioners.

This action reflects the CFTC’s commitment to monitoring derivatives trading, particularly in markets such as livestock futures that are experiencing historic volatility. Where appropriate, the Commission will enforce federal and exchange-set position limits, which are critical to prevent unwarranted price volatility and market manipulation.
