Readout: US Secretary Of The Treasury Janet L. Yellen’s Call With German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz

Earlier today, Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen spoke with German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz. During the call, they stressed the importance of the U.S.-German and transatlantic partnerships and agreed to work together to end the pandemic, support a strong and sustained global economic recovery, fight income inequality, and forcefully address the threat of climate change. Secretary Yellen committed to active U.S. participation in the ongoing OECD discussions on international taxation to forge a timely international accord. The Secretary noted the importance of collaborating closely on bilateral and global issues.

Finansinspektionen: Nasdaq Clearing Receives Warning And Administrative Fine Of MSEK 300

Finansinspektionen (FI) is issuing Nasdaq Clearing AB a warning for serious deficiencies in its operations, in part in conjunction with a member of the firm’s commodities market being declared in default in 2018. Nasdaq Clearing must also pay an administrative fine of SEK 300 million.

Earlier today, Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen spoke with United Kingdom Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak. During the call, Secretary Yellen highlighted their shared priorities, including cooperating to end the pandemic and support a strong global recovery, fighting inequality, and forcefully addressing the threat of climate change. They also discussed the need to find multilateral solutions to many of the issues facing the global economy, including addressing the tax challenges of efficiently and equitably taxing the income of multinational firms. The Secretary noted the importance of the longstanding U.S.-UK relationship. Secretary Yellen looks forward to working closely with Chancellor Sunak during the UK’s leadership of the G7 and COP-26.

European Commission Adopts Equivalence Decision With Respect To SEC Regulatory Framework For Central Counterparties, Acting Chair Allison Herren Lee Jan. 27, 2021

On January 27, 2021, the European Commission (EC) adopted an equivalence decision stating that the SEC’s regulatory framework applicable to central counterparties (CCPs) that are “covered clearing agencies” under SEC rules is equivalent to relevant European legal and regulatory requirements. The EC’s decision is an important first step on the road to providing greater regulatory certainty for CCPs and their members on both sides of the Atlantic.
