Statement On Certain Protocol Staking Activities, SEC Division Of Corporation Finance, May 29, 2025

As part of an effort to provide greater clarity on the application of the federal securities laws to crypto assets, the Division of Corporation Finance is providing its views on certain activities known as “staking” on networks that use proof-of-stake (“PoS”) as a consensus mechanism (“PoS Networks”). Specifically, this statement addresses the staking of crypto assets that are intrinsically linked to the programmatic functioning of a public, permissionless network, and are used to participate in and/or earned for participating in such network’s consensus mechanism or otherwise used to maintain and/or earned for maintaining the technological operation and security of such network. We refer in this statement to these crypto assets as “Covered Crypto Assets” and their staking on PoS Networks as “Protocol Staking.”

Revised Lists Of The Moscow Exchange Indices Announced

Today Moscow Exchange announced the results of the quarterly review for MOEX indices. All changes were made upon recommendations from the Index Committee and will be implemented from 20 June 2025. The Exchange has also set free floats and additional weighting factor for several companies.

Our profession has increasingly recognized, especially after the Global Financial Crisis, that research in the interdisciplinary topics between macroeconomics and finance is indispensable both for monetary policy and for promoting financial stability. As a researcher myself, and having spent many years in academia, I place great value on the social contribution of research and its potential to improve policymaking.

CFTC Awards Approximately $700,000 To Whistleblower

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission today announced a whistleblower award of approximately $700,000. The whistleblower information prompted the CFTC to open the investigation and described the misconduct that ultimately appeared in the order. The whistleblower also provided substantial assistance and helped the Commission conserve resources during the investigation. The award was reduced because of an unreasonable delay in reporting the violations and the whistleblower’s culpability.

Get Ready To Submit EU ISDA SIMM Applications

Last week marked an important milestone for the ISDA Standard Initial Margin Model (ISDA SIMM), as we published the first recalibration under the new semiannual cycle. Agreed in coordination with global regulators, this shift will ensure the ISDA SIMM continues to appropriately reflect risk and is updated in a predictable and transparent way. However, the release also triggered a new requirement for EU counterparties to apply for regulatory authorization to use the model – a submission that must be complete before the revised version of the ISDA SIMM comes into effect on July 12.
