The global ETF industry marks its 36th anniversary, celebrating more than three decades of innovation since the launch of the world’s first exchange-traded fund. On March 9, 1990, the Toronto Index Participation Shares (TIPS) were listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange in Canada, tracking the TSE 35 Index, laying the foundation for a product that has transformed how investors access markets. From that single listing, ETFs have evolved into a cornerstone of global investing—offering transparency, liquidity, cost efficiency, and broad market access—and today span equities, fixed income, commodities, Active strategies, and digital assets across markets worldwide.

Securities ownership among the Austrian population remains on an upward trend. The latest survey of the "Aktienbarometer" – an annual survey carried out by the Federation of Austrian Industries, Aktienforum and Vienna Stock Exchange – shows that 31 percent of people in Austria invest in shares, bonds, investment funds and ETFs, continuing the steady upturn – almost one in three Austrians owns securities. Long-term wealth accumulation and private pension provision are thus already firmly rooted in society.

This reflects a 12.45% increase in terms of share volume traded and a 233.15% (233.15% in US Dollar terms) increase in share value traded. Of the shares traded, 250 thousand NBS shares traded as a negotiated deal at a total consideration of MK175.00 million.
