EEX: Trading Fees Waived For The Spot Market - Small And Medium-Size Companies Will Gain Access To Attractive Platform For Electricity Trading - More Than 30 Companies Prepare For The EEX Spot Market

EEX, the European Energy Exchange, is waiving a large part of the fees for trading on the spot market for the year 2000, as the company announced at the general meeting on Wednesday. The fee waiver includes the annual fee for the spot market, the transaction fees for trading as well as the costs for the basic technical equipment and the connection to the Xetra trading system. The one-time admission fee at EEX is not affected by the fee waiver.

Volume of trading on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in the first half of 2000 rose 15 percent above 1999 levels to more than 120 million contracts. June volume of 20.5 million contracts set a new record for any June in CME history, while equity index products set a new all-time volume record of 5.6 million.

On June 19, OME RSS3 futures opened mixed with players staying on the sidelines in the absence of fresh incentives. The current contract month rose by 0.3 yen to 67.00 yen where as the distant contract month fell by 0.6 yen to 77.40 yen from the previous close. Osaka Mercantile Exchange Aluminium Futures Weekly Report

On June 19, OME Aluminium futures opened the week substantially higher with distant May contract at 169.5 yen, up 2.1 yen from last Friday's close on bull's buying due to the continued talk of a major U.S. aluminium producer curbing its aluminium output. Furthermore, the fact that the aluminium stocks at designated LME warehouses decreased by about 300,000 tonnes as of June 19 from the peak in February this year added to the strong sentiment.
