LIFFE Trades £31 Trillion Worth Of Contracts In First Half 2000

The London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE) traded an average daily nominal value of £279 billion (421 billion) in June 2000 and totalled £31 trillion for the first half of 2000, maintaining its position as the world's largest electronic exchange by value traded.

The value of equity trading was DKK 378 billion in the first six months of the year, up from DKK 220 billion in the first half of 1999, a rise of 72 per cent. The average daily value of trading rose from DKK 1.8 billion to DKK 3.1 billion.

The Mercado a Término de Buenos Aires (Buenos Aires Futures Exchange) traded 24,139 contracts in June 2000 compared to a figure of 18,678 contracts in June 1999. Total volume for the first six months of 2000 was 131,650 contracts, compared to 115,935 contracts in 1999.

Sefalana reported an excellent set of year-end results for the eighteen-month period to 30th April 2000, which were better than our expectations. Turnover increased an impressive 58% (annualised) from P188m to P462m for the 18 months. Earnings rose from P12.1m to P30.1m - an annualised growth of 66%. Annualised EPS was 125.29t (1998 - 75.63) compared to our forecast of 113.4t. Annualised DPS increased 55% % from 43t to 67t. Management is confident that the group will continue to perform well.
