Equities - Resilient 2001 trading defies difficult market conditions Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris, 7 January 2002 - Trading activity in December was affected by the higher than usual number of closing days, due mainly to preparations for the introduction of the physical euro. Equity trading on the orderbooks of Euronext N.V. totalled €103.14 billion during the 17 trading days of December 2001 - the last 10 days of the month included only three trading days.

Review of flaxseed prices: The nearby flaxseed futures price series has been in an upward trend over the last year and a half. It has ranged from a low of $212.80/tonne in August 2000 to a high of $334.50/tonne in September 2001, a range of over $120/tonne. During this past month, however, Jan 02 Flaxseed futures declined from a high of $326.00/tonne to end the month at $306.00/tonne.

Winnipeg Commodity Exchange Sees Record 2001 Calendar Year Pit Trade - Total Futures And Options Volume 16% Ahead Of Year Ago Totals

WCE records were set for the 2001 calendar year in futures volume levels, options volume totals and total futures and options volume levels combined. Calendar-year total volume in futures was 2,679,184 contracts, well ahead of the 2,333,443 contracts traded in 2000. Within that total, canola futures volumes were 23.8% ahead of 2000 levels at 2,249,011 contracts.
