  • Federal Reserve Is Prepared To Expand The Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility (TALF)

    The Federal Reserve Board on Tuesday announced that it is prepared to undertake a substantial expansion of the Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility (TALF).  The expansion could increase the size of the TALF to as much as $1 trillion and could broaden the eligible collateral to encompass other types of newly issued AAA-rated asset-backed securities, such as commercial mortgage-backed securities, private-label residential mortgage-backed securities, and other asset-backed securities.

    PLUS Markets – the new stock exchange for London - today announced very strong trading activity for the month of January 2009 with 781,485 trades, a 96.64% increase on January 2008. The number of shares traded rose 187% against the same month to a record high of 4.99 billion, while trade value was up by 30% at £3.78 billion for the month.

    Over the week of February 2 – February 6, 2009, the RTS Index went down by 2,64% to reach 520,91 points (535,04 points as of January 30, 2009). Most of the negative impact on the Index dynamics was related to the falling prices for OAO "LUKOIL" ordinary shares (LKOH) (minus 10,23 points), Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) (minus 4,89 points) and Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) (minus 3,99 points).
