ICE Futures Europe Sets Daily Volume And Brent Crude Futures Records

IntercontinentalExchange, Inc. (NYSE: ICE), a leading operator of global regulated futures exchanges, clearing houses and over-the-counter (OTC) markets, announced that ICE Futures Europe set an exchange-wide daily volume record of 1,429,283 contracts on 12 January. The new record was established on the exchange's seventh consecutive million-plus volume day and surpassed by 2% the previous daily record of 1,399,536 contracts, which was established on 13 April 2010.

NYSE Euronext (NYX) today announced the formation of a Strategic Committee to assist and advise its Board of Directors in implementing plans, announced in July 2010, for a Paris-based Multilateral Trading Facility (MTF). Dubbed NYSE BondMatch, this is intended to meet user needs for transparency, liquidity and effective pre- and post-trade services on the euro-denominated bond market.

The number of securities accounts operated by KDPW participants grew by almost 350 thousand in 2010. At 2010 year-end, they operated 1,477,419 accounts, up by 30 percent year on year. New stock investors were attracted in record-high numbers by State Treasury offerings as well as numerous IPOs on the WSE. The number of securities accounts operated by some brokers increased by several hundred percent.

Enhancing Safety Of European Financial Markets: Common Rules For Central Securities Depositories (CSDs) And Securities Settlement

As part of its work in creating a more transparent and stable financial system, the European Commission Services have today launched a consultation on Central Securities Depositories (CSDs) and on the harmonisation of certain aspects of securities settlement in the European Union. The purpose of this consultation is to gather input from all stakeholders in order to inform the legislative proposals due in June 2011. The deadline for replies is 1 March 2011.
