CFTC Issues Final Order Amending The Effective Date For Swap Regulation

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today issued a Final Order regarding the effective date for swap regulation. On July 14, 2011, the CFTC granted temporary exemptive relief from certain provisions of the Commodity Exchange Act that otherwise would have taken effect on July 16, 2011, the general effective date of title VII of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. On October 25, 2011, the CFTC proposed to extend the exemptive relief beyond the December 31, 2011, expiration date. Today’s Final Order addresses the comments received on the October 25, 2011, Notice of Proposed Amendment, and extends the potential latest expiration date of the exemptive relief to July 16, 2012.

European Parliament Economic And Monetary Affairs Committee: Deeper Economic Governance And Credit Ratings Dominate Debate With ECB President Draghi

European Central Bank President Mario Draghi again defended the ECB's traditional role, as laid down in the EU treaty, and resisted calls for it to tackle the Eurozone crisis more aggressively, in his first exchange as ECB President with Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee MEPs on Monday. He also said the "fiscal compact" deal was "a breakthrough", albeit one that could be improved upon, and that it was time to pay less attention to credit ratings.

CFTC: Michigan Federal Court Orders Jeffrey L. Groendyke And JG Forex Fund To Pay Over $1.4 Million For Operating A Forex Ponzi Scheme

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today announced that it obtained a federal consent order for permanent injunction against CFTC defendant Jeffrey L. Groendyke (doing business as JG Forex Fund) of Middleville, Mich., requiring him to pay $963,141 in restitution and a $420,000 civil monetary penalty. The order also permanently bars Groendyke from engaging in any commodity-related activity, including trading and registering with the CFTC.
