Platinum Options Traded On JSE For First Time - Trades Take Place On Safex Commodity Derivative’s Global Market

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) saw 800 platinum option contracts traded on the Safex Commodity Derivative’s Global Market late last week, the first time that the JSE has seen this trading strategy used by market participants.

GreenX traded just over 24 million tonnes in December with roughly 15,000 EUA Futures contracts and 9,000 CER Futures. Total trading volumes on GreenX for 2011 closed the year at 451,765 contracts, an increase of 322% over 2010.

The European Power Exchange, EPEX SPOT, looks back on a year 2011 full of projects which further integrate the European power market – in particular the plan for a joint venture with the Nordic power spot exchange Nord Pool Spot, scheduled for launch in 2012. At the same time, trading volumes increased noticeably. 314 TWh were traded on EPEX SPOT markets, which corresponds to a 12.5 percent increase compared to the previous year (279 TWh).

Deutsche Börse Commodities: Gold Holdings At A Record Level In 2011 - Xetra-Gold Reserve With A Value Of Around €2.1 Billion In Central Vault

The value of gold stored by Deutsche Börse Commodities rose by around 32% in 2011 to €2.1 billion (as at 31 December 2011), thus achieving a new record level. The gold in the central vault well crossed the 50 ton mark in the course of the year. The highest demand for Xetra-Gold was in July and August.
