ESMA Publishes The Official Translations Of The “Guidelines On Certain Aspects Of The MiFID Compliance Function Requirements” (ESMA/2012/388)

Today’s publication triggers a transitional period of two months within which national competent authorities have to confirm to ESMA whether they intend to comply with the guidelines, or otherwise explain the reasons for non-compliance.

Vienna Stock Exchange And Istanbul Stock Exchange Join Forces To Launch Two New Indices

The stock exchanges of Istanbul and Vienna have joined forces in a unique cooperation project and launched the IBTX (Istanbul Traded Index) and IBTX Banking today. The IBTX is calculated based on the prices of the twenty most actively traded shares of the Istanbul Stock Exchange. The IBTX Banking index consists of the most liquid Turkish banking stocks.

British Bankers' Association Statement On Conclusions Of Wheatley Review Into LIBOR

The British Bankers' Association said:
"The BBA worked very closely with the Wheatley Review of LIBOR and believe today's report is an essential step. The BBA has strongly stated the need for greater regulatory oversight of LIBOR, and tougher sanctions for those who try to manipulate it. The BBA Council has indicated it would support any recommendation that responsibility for LIBOR should be passed to a new sponsor.

Hong Kong's Securities And Futures Commission Welcomes Appointment Of Chairman And Non-Executive Director

The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) welcomes the appointment by the HKSAR Government of Mr Carlson Tong as the Chairman of the SFC and of Dr Kelvin Wong Tin-yau as a non-executive director with effect from 20 October 2012.

The Wheatley Review Of LIBOR - Final Report And findings

Following the findings by various authorities in regard to the attempted manipulation of LIBOR, Martin Wheatley, Managing Director of the FSA and CEO Designate of the Financial Conduct Authority, was commissioned by the Chancellor of the Exchequer to undertake a review. This was to look at the structure and governance of LIBOR and make recommendations on how the system should be reformed to ensure that credibility and trust in this important benchmark are fully restored.

Change In The Chairmanship Of The SIX Board Of Directors

Peter Gomez is to pass on his mandate as Chairman of the Board of Directors of SIX to a younger pair of hands. He will do so at the general meeting of shareholders at the end of May 2013, following an orderly process to find a successor. Peter Gomez successfully implemented the merger of the three predecessor companies into SIX in a difficult environment. The Board is proposing as his successor Alexandre Zeller, who has had a long and successful career in banking at the national and international levels.

SIX Exchange Regulation Reaches An Agreement With International Minerals Corporation

SIX Exchange Regulation has reached an agreement with International Minerals Corporation in connection with a breach of International Financial Reporting Standards in their interim financial statements 2011/2012. The violations identified relate to the presentation of the income statement as well as disclosures regarding the valuation of securities held. As a condition of the agreement, the company committed to invest in IFRS-training for their employees.
