Statement By The European Commission On The Capital Controls Imposed By The Republic Of Cyprus

The Commission takes note of temporary restrictions on the free movement of capital, including capital controls, imposed by the Republic of Cyprus as part of a series of measures to prevent the significant risk of uncontrollable outflow of deposits which would lead to the collapse of the credit institutions and to the immediate risk of complete destabilisation of the financial system of Cyprus.
Thai Bourse’s “Opportunity Day” Viewers Jump To Record High

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) announced the success of Opportunity Day events for financial performance in 2012, which could attract a total of 90,000 viewers from webcasts, smart phones and iPads. In 2012, the number of viewers jumped by 80 percent to an all-time high from financial performance in 2011. To boost the information access channel, SET will test its app “OppDay” on Android at the next its quarterly "Opportunity Day", when top management of listed companies meet directly with analysts and investors.

UK House Of Lords Select Committee: EU Financial Transaction Tax: Financial Uphill Battle Gets Steeper

The House of Lords EU Committee have written to Greg Clark MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury to state that there is a case for a legal challenge against the proposal for a Financial Transaction Tax (FTT) to be adopted in 11 Member States. The Committee conclude that, despite Commission denials, UK authorities may be required to collect the FTT, and that revenue collected from London-based financial institutions could be used to reduce the EU budget contributions of contributing Member States. The proposal may fall foul of the legal requirement to respect the competences, rights and obligations of non-participating Member States.
