Montréal Exchange To Introduce Futures Contracts On The FTSE Emerging Markets Index - New Product Designed To Help Investors Manage Risk In Emerging Markets Equities

Montréal Exchange Inc. (MX), Canada's derivatives exchange, today announced the introduction of a new futures product based on the performance of the FTSE Emerging Markets Index. Scheduled to begin trading on June 13, 2014, the FTSE Emerging Markets Index Futures (MX-EMF) are targeted at a wide range of market participants seeking exposure to emerging markets for hedging, asset allocation, speculative and arbitrage purposes.

ETFGI: Assets Of ETFs And ETPs Listed In The United States Reached US$1.8 Trillion, A New Record High, At The End Of May 2014

ETFs and ETPs listed in the United States gathered US$13.6 billion in net new assets in May which, when combined with a small positive market performance in the month, pushed assets in the US listed ETF/ETP industry to a new record high of US$1.8 trillion, according to preliminary data from ETFGI’s May 2014 Global ETF and ETP industry insights report. At the end of May 2014 the US ETF/ETP industry had 1,591 ETFs/ETPs, from 58 providers listed on 3 exchanges.

The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has banned Mr Christopher Ma Chun Leung and Mr Wong Man Chung from re-entering the industry for 10 years from 28 May 2014 to 27 May 2024 and two years from 30 May 2014 to 29 May 2016 respectively (Notes 1 & 2).

- Trading value in the ETF/ETN market in May 2014 was about JPY 1.7555 trillion, with daily average trading value reaching about JPY 87.8 billion.
- During the month, the Indian general election drew attention to the country's stock market. NEXT FUNDS CNX Nifty Linked Exchange Traded Fund (1678) saw trading value grow more than ten-fold, pushing its overall
ranking up to 19th while Listed Index Fund CNX Nifty Futures (India Equity) (1549) also saw increased activity. - Meanwhile, the trading value rankings highlighted the significant gains made by TOPIX ETF (1306) and other TOPIX ETFs.
