SEC: Accountant Suspended For Failing To Spot Fraud In Company Audit

The Securities and Exchange Commission today suspended an accountant for conducting a faulty audit of the financial statements of a public company that was committing fraud, and the firm where he was a partner at the time has been prohibited from accepting new public company clients for one year.

Hong Kong’s Fund Management Business Holds Steady In 2015

The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) today released its annual Fund Management Activities Survey (FMAS) which shows that the combined fund management business in Hong Kong decreased slightly by 1.6% year-on-year to $17,393 billion as of 31 December 2015.

In response to press queries, Mr. Gerry Rice, Director of Communications at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), made the following statement today relating to the Managing Director’s legal case in France:

“As we have said before, it would not be appropriate to comment on a case that has been and is currently before the French judiciary. However, the Executive Board has been briefed on recent developments related to this matter, and continues to express its confidence in the Managing Director’s ability to effectively carry out her duties. The Board will continue to be briefed on this matter.”
