Financial Services Associations Submit Comments On TLAC Requirement To Help Ensure G-SIBs Can Be Resolved

SIFMA, The Clearing House, the American Bankers Association, the Financial Services Roundtable, and the Financial Services Forum submitted comments to the Federal Reserve in response to its proposal to impose total loss absorbing capacity, long-term debt and related "clean holding company" requirements on global systemically important banking groups (G-SIBs). The associations express the industry's strong support for a TLAC requirement for G-SIBs, which is a crucial aspect of ending "Too Big to Fail" by helping ensure that these institutions can be resolved in an orderly way at the expense of creditors and shareholders (and not taxpayers).

BC Report Warns Of Gap Between Investor Attitudes And Behaviours Ahead Of RRSP Deadline - Recent BCSC Study Shows Trust In An Advisor May Keep Investors From Due Diligence

This RRSP season, the British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC) is encouraging investors to make smarter decisions and learn more about the role they play when working with an investment advisor. The BCSC’s message is prompted by findings from research it commissioned showing that while most British Columbians agree they have responsibilities when it comes to investing, many neglect those responsibilities. According to the study, 43 per cent of British Columbians 35 years and older have investments, and 27 per cent of them invest through an advisor.

Today, SIFMA issued the followed joint statement from U.S. and EU trade associations and representative bodies calling for financial services to be fully covered in TTIP to help address market fragmentation:
"Today, the undersigned trade associations and representative bodies, based in the United States and the European Union, issued the following statement reinforcing their strong support for a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) that includes financial services regulatory coordination, in advance of the 12th round of negotiations to be held this week in Brussels beginning on February 22nd."

CFTC Charges Florida-Based North American Asset Management, LLC, Alexi Bethel, And Steven Labadie With Engaging In Illegal, Off-Exchange Precious Metals Transactions

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced the filing of a civil injunctive enforcement action in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Defendants North American Asset Management, LLC (NAAM) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; its owner and president Alexi Bethel of Miami, Florida; and its owner and managing director Steven Labadie of Lake Worth, Florida. The CFTC Complaint charges the Defendants with engaging in illegal, off-exchange transactions in precious metals with retail customers on a leveraged, margined, or financed basis. The Complaint further alleges that Bethel and Labadie, as controlling persons for NAAM, are liable for NAAM’s violations of the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA).
