MiFID II/Best Execution Legal Opinion With Regard To Routing To Multiple Trading Venues

An important aim and consequence of the MiFID regime for investment firms has been the introduction of competition, resulting in the establishment of multiple equity and derivatives exchanges. Banks and investment firms need to consider how they will manage the multitude of execution venue-choices in their duty of care towards clients for the MiFID II enhanced Best Execution requirements.

Federal Court Orders Banc De Binary Ltd., ET Binary Options Ltd., BO Systems Ltd., BDB Services Ltd., And Oren Shabat Laurent To Pay More Than $9 Million In Restitution And A Civil Monetary Penalty For Violating The CFTC’s Ban On Trading Binary Options Off-Exchange

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today announced that a federal court in Las Vegas, Nevada, issued a Consent Order requiring Defendants Oren Shabat Laurent of Israel and his companies E.T. Binary Options, Ltd. of Israel, Banc de Binary, Ltd. of Cyprus, BO Systems, Ltd. of the Seychelles, and BDB Services, Ltd. of the Seychelles (collectively, Banc de Binary) to pay $7.1 million in restitution to U.S. customers who traded the illegal, off-exchange options (in this case, binary options) offered by the Defendants. The Defendants were also ordered to pay a $2 million civil monetary penalty. The Order also imposed a permanent ban on offering or trading any further off-exchange binary options to U.S. customers.

SEC: Money Returning To Investors Harmed By Unregistered Broker

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced that a Cyprus-based company has agreed to pay $11 million to settle charges that it illegally sold binary options to U.S. investors.  A judge signed a court order late yesterday authorizing the distribution of this money to harmed investors through a Fair Fund.

It is my pleasure to be at this august gathering on a special day set aside to celebrate women all over the world. It is commendable that the Nigerian Stock Exchange is joining the rest of the world to celebrate women and highlight issues concerning them.  The theme for this year’s Nigerian Stock Exchange organized International Women’s Day Symposium – Private Sector Action to Advance Gender Equality and Sustainable Development, is apt at this time in the socio-economic life of Nigeria as a sovereign State. This theme, in consonance with the International Women’s Day 2016 campaign theme - #PledgeForParity is a call to action for both men and women to take concrete steps in fast tracking the movement towards parity, equal opportunities and elimination of all forms of violence against women and as well as discrimination between men and women in all human endeavour. The journey has been tough and rough and it is still a long way to go for the human race to achieve this much desired equality and equity. But looking back to the recognized official beginning of this quest, a lot has been achieved and therefore, no effort must be spared to bring forward issues relating to the wellbeing and socio-economic inclusion of women and the girl-child.

European Stability Mechanism (ESM) Adds €1 Billion To 2020 Bond In Tap Auction

The European Stability Mechanism (ESM) today conducted a tap auction of a €4 billion 5-year bond maturing on 3 November 2020. An additional €992.75 million was issued, bringing the total size of the existing bond to just under €5 billion.
