Nasdaq Announces End-Of-Month Open Short Interest Positions in Nasdaq Stocks As Of Settlement Date June 29, 2018

At the end of the settlement date of June 29, 2018, short interest in 2,348 Nasdaq Global MarketSM securities totaled 7,435,196,979 shares compared with 7,442,061,087 shares in 2,334 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of June 15, 2018. The end-of-May short interest represents 3.65 days average daily Nasdaq Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 4.21 days for the prior reporting period.

Thank you for inviting me to say a few words about the importance of this Task Force.[1] I commend the President and the Attorney General for their leadership in this area. Serving and protecting Main Street investors is my main priority at the SEC. We recognize that close partnerships with our fellow regulators and law enforcement agencies are vital to helping us detect and respond to fraud. Through a few examples, I’d like to highlight some of the work the SEC is doing to combat retail securities fraud and illustrate how important inter-agency cooperation is.

SIFMA Supports H.R. 6323, Legislation To Protect Senior Investors From Financial Exploitation

SIFMA released the following statement in support of H.R. 6323, the National Senior Investor Initiative Act of 2018, which passed the House Financial Services Committee today. H.R. 6323 would create a “Senior Investor Taskforce” within the Securities and Exchange Commission charged with identifying problems senior investors encounter, including financial exploitation and cognitive decline, and identifying regulatory changes that could help senior investors.
