FESE: European Capital Markets Fact Sheet Q3 2019

- European capital markets had a good third quarter in 2019.
- Both the FESE Index and equity trading increased QoQ and YoY, recovering their earlier path.
- Good news for SME markets, they grew in market capitalisation.
- New listings experienced a sharp quarterly decline owing to an above-average second quarter, but equity investment flows increased YoY.
- It was a very positive quarter for options and futures, as they soared in notional turnover.
- Finally, also good news for bonds: they increased in turnover at the QoQ and YoY levels.

SEC Investor Advisory Committee To Meet On Nov. 7

The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Investor Advisory Committee will hold a public meeting on Nov. 7. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time in the Multipurpose Room at SEC headquarters at 100 F Street, N.E., Washington, D.C. and is open to the public. The meeting will be webcast live and archived on the committee’s website for later viewing.

Record Number Of Comments Submitted In Opposition To Proposed SEC Rule

The National Whistleblower Center (NWC) today filed a historic petition with 102,595 signatures opposing a proposed Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) rule that would reduce whistleblower protections and rewards. When combined with the more than 15,000 comments directly filed with the SEC by many of these individuals, this is the largest-ever set of comments on an SEC whistleblower program change. It is also one of the top seven sets of comments on any SEC action.

ETF Market Report: 3rd Quarter 2019 - The Swiss Stock Exchange, One Of Europe’s Top 3 ETF Venues, Publishes The Latest Figures About The Growth Of Its Segment.

The Swiss ETF market developed positively in the past quarter and achieved an increase in turnover, as the latest edition of ourETF Market Report[pdf] shows. Trading turnover in the third quarter reached CHF 40.5 billion. With CHF 28.9 bn, turnover in the asset class Equity Developed Markets alone was higher than the total turnover of the ETF segment in Q2 (CHF 24.7 bn). With a total of 272'322, the number of transactions in Q3 was also higher than in the previous quarter (257'707).

The Supervisory Board of Solactive has appointed Timo Pfeiffer to Solactive’s Management Board. Timo Pfeiffer joins Steffen Scheuble (CEO), Dirk Urmoneit (CIO), and Christian Vollmuth (CRO) as part of the firm’s management body in the newly created role of Chief Markets Officer (CMO). In this new role, Timo Pfeiffer assumes responsibility for Solactive’s client-facing activities, research function, and wider distribution and communications strategy. The appointment highlights the importance of Solactive’s growing client base and cements the connectivity between client segments, regions, and product lines.
