CFTC Announces Prediction Markets Roundtable

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission will hold a public roundtable in approximately 45 days at the conclusion of its requests for information on certain sports-related event contracts. The goal of the roundtable is to develop a robust administrative record with studies, data, expert reports, and public input from a wide variety of stakeholder groups to inform the Commission’s approach to regulation and oversight of prediction markets, including sports-related event contracts.

Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent announced today President Trump’s intent to nominate Luke Pettit and Jason De Sena Trennert for positions at the United States Department of the Treasury.  

“Luke and Jason will be critical to implementing President Trump’s agenda to drive progress for the American people by revitalizing the economy, lowering prices by cutting burdensome regulation, and strengthening the financial system,” said Secretary Bessent.

Thank you for the invitation to speak to you today. It is a pleasure to be with you. I always enjoy the opportunity to meet bankers from across the country to learn about the issues that are important to you. Recently, I have observed a shift in tone when I talk to bankers about the bank regulatory environment. Bankers are cautiously optimistic that we will see meaningful reform that right-sizes regulation and supervisory approach, reforms that—if executed appropriately—should help the banking system promote economic growth in a safe and sound manner. Today, I will share my views on a number of issues related to banking regulation and supervision, including the importance of tailoring, having a problem-focused approach to bank regulation and supervision, and the imperative of innovation in the banking system.

These contracts will be listed on or after trade date February 7, 2025.

​The European Banking Authority (EBA) today published an Opinion on the amendments proposed by the European Commission (EC) to the EBA draft Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS) on conflicts of interests for issuers of asset-referenced tokens. The EBA agrees with the substantive changes proposed by the EC, which favour proportionality, as well as with the other amendments which are considered non-substantives.  ​

The U.S. Department of the Treasury is offering $125 billion of Treasury securities to refund approximately $106.2 billion of privately-held Treasury notes and bonds maturing on February 15, 2025.  This issuance will raise new cash from private investors of approximately $18.8 billion.
