  • US Financial Stability Oversight Council Meetings

    On Thursday, March 20, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent will preside over a meeting of the Financial Stability Oversight Council (Council) at the Treasury Department. The meeting will consist only of an executive session. The preliminary agenda for the meeting includes an update on recent Treasury market developments; an update on cybersecurity developments; and an update on homeowners insurance and natural disasters.*

    The Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Division of Market Oversight today announced it is withdrawing CFTC Letter No. 21-19, Staff Advisory Swap Execution Facility Registration Requirement, effective immediately. 

  • Nadex Amends Rules Relating To Liability, And Adds Rules Relating To Technology Service Providers

    Pursuant to Section 5c(c)(1) of the Commodity Exchange Act, and Commission Regulation §40.6(a), Nadex has submitted to the Commission its intent to amend Rule 1.1 adding a definition for Technology Service Providers. Nadex has also submitted to the Commission its intent to add Rule 2.11 to account for its relationship with Technology Service Providers as well as amending Rule 10.1 relating to Liability. This submission will become effective on March 24, 2025.

  • Canadians Losing Millions To Investment Scams: Canadian Securities Administrators, Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre And Royal Canadian Mounted Police Urge Vigilance And Reporting

    To mark Fraud Prevention Month and combat the escalating threat of online investment fraud, the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are together urging Canadians to help fight fraud by reporting suspected scams and by increasing vigilance when considering online investment opportunities. The CSA, CAFC and RCMP are particularly concerned about the increasing prevalence and sophistication of online investment scams. For the first time since the CSA started tracking incidences of investment fraud, scams among younger Canadians have trended upwards. According to the CSA’s 2024 Investor Index Survey, 46 per cent of Canadians report they’ve seen investment opportunities promoted on social media. Fraudsters are using everyday financial pressures and offers of quick and easy money to attract Canadians from all walks of life.
