  • US Department Of Justice: Senior Oil And Gas Trader And Brazil-Based Intermediary Charged In Bribery And Money Laundering Scheme

    An indictment was unsealed today in the District of Connecticut charging a Connecticut man and a foreign national with conspiracy, multiple counts of violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), and money laundering in connection with an alleged scheme to pay bribes to Brazilian officials to win contracts with Brazil’s state-owned and state-controlled energy company, Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras (Petrobras).

  • SEC Charges NBA Hall Of Famer Paul Pierce For Unlawfully Touting And Making Misleading Statements About Crypto Security

    The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced charges against former NBA player Paul Pierce for touting EMAX tokens, crypto asset securities offered and sold by EthereumMax, on social media without disclosing the payment he received for the promotion and for making false and misleading promotional statements about the same crypto asset. Pierce agreed to settle the charges and pay $1.409 million in penalties, disgorgement, and interest.

  • ETFGI Reports The ETFs Industry In Canada Gathered Net Inflows Of US$66 Million US In January 2023

    ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm covering trends in the global ETFs ecosystem, reported today that ETFs industry in Canada gathered net inflows of US$66 million during January. During the month, assets invested in the ETFs industry in Canada increased by 7.0%, from US$250 billion at the end of December to US$268 billion, according to ETFGI's January 2023 Canadian ETFs and ETPs industry landscape insights report, the monthly report which is part of an annual paid-for research subscription service.     Trading volume on swap execution facilities reached $1.07 trillion in average notional value per day during January 2023. This was up 43.6% from the previous month but down 16% from the same month of the previous year. Compared to December 2022, trading was up in every sector.
